Whooo Are Youuu?

"A grandmother pretends she doesn't know who you are on Halloween.(Erma Bombeck)
###
If that is true, "I have no idea who these children are." (G)
And where did you say you got those elf ears?
Did you pay extra for them?

Or did they come with the costume?

Have a Boo-tiful Halloween Night!
Behold, children are a gift of the Lord.

Summer Skills

It's officially summer, and some of G's grandchildren get to balance productive tasks with their screen time--creating something, writing, reading, outdoor time, etc. [Not a bad idea.]
So...Noni was at G's house and might not have been thrilled, but was cooperative, when she asked him to check off a task by writing about when he got his trophy deer. Here's his typed (and edited) product. G was happy. Noni checked off a task.

My Trophy Deer
My daddy and I were out at Uncle John’s farm hunting one day in October, a few days before my birthday. We were sitting on this rock when he said, “We should move back to our other spot. I just have that feeling.” So I agreed to go back to our homemade blind. I heard a noise like a tree falling in the creek. Then my daddy said, “A monster buck just walked out.” I felt a shock go through my body. I was very precise on my aiming. I held my breath and pulled the trigger. I didn’t feel a kick, which I never do. The buck ran for a hundred yards. I said to daddy. “I’m sorry, Daddy. I guess we all miss one once.” Then he said, “No, you got him! Look over there.” The beast had been downed by a ten year old boy. When we walked over to where my buck was lying, somehow his rear left leg had gotten hung between his antlers. That was the hardest shot I’ve ever taken.
I entered the buck in the Dixie Deer Classic and placed second in the state in my class and first in Wake county.

What were Laurel and V doing in the meantime?
Laurel read books to G for her reading time.  G liked that. And for her creative activity, she made...

....wait for it....SLIME!  [of course]
V was taking his required end-of-home-school-year test.
Way to go, V! Your first as a US Citizen!

You have goat to be kidding!

What I am about to show you did not occur at G's house...
G was, however, present and saw it with her own eyes.
G will not divulge where this occurred,*
but perhaps you might recognize some of the participants.

"Never underestimate a woman who loves goats."

Some participants were not thrilled about participating...and might be seen hiding behind a door.

“I love you more than I love goats, and you know how I feel about goats..."
(J. Patterson)

"A prudent man does not make the goat his gardener."   (Hungarian Proverb)
“But...that doesn't make any sense...!'
'It does if you're a goat.”   ( L. Medley)

"I liked the way the word 'goat' looked on the page, but I decided then and there
that I wanted to be a writer." (T. Obreht)

"Even goats may have starlight in their eyes." (R.W. Service)

*Disclaimer: No goats became permanent house guests during this incident.

Mystery of the Baby Geese

We knew that Mama and Papa Canada Geese were getting ready to welcome babies this spring.
She would disappear to sit on the nest while he would regularly appear to wait for G to bring him food.
Keeping nests free from predators around Granddaddy's pond is not easy for geese parents. They have to navigate the dangers of foxes, coyotes, raccoons, and snakes to even see their eggs hatch, and then the turtles love the taste of goose babies.  But still, there was hope....

Until once upon a walk around the pond, Noah, Laurel and G came across this....
Egg shells strewn across the field....

And an empty nest.
We were sad, as we were pretty sure this was the scene of a nest invasion crime and no baby geese would be forthcoming.
And then, one day about 2 weeks later, G came home to discover....
A gathering of 4 adult geese near the barn AND 2 geese goslings!
And what vigilant parents they had! By the time G got out of her car and got her camera, the geese parents were herding their babies away to safety toward the pond.
But if you look closely, you can see the little goslings.
Did they hatch from the scattered shells and stay hidden from predators until they were big enough to survive?
Or did the new babies come from another pair of visiting geese parents?  Probably, but we can hope.

Anyway, it was a good surprise to see the little goslings being so well cared for by their conscientious parents.
Behold, children are a gift of the Lord.

Sno in May? Yes!

A favorite place that G likes to go... and take along anyone who will come too...
is Sno-Daze!

Snow cones in a zillion flavors to please everyone's palate....
but G is a purist. She prefers Moose Tracks in a cup.
The. Best!
And on a bit further is Johnson Farms strawberries!
And then it's time for a nap!
We love May.
Behold, children are a gift of the Lord.
